Sightseeing and excursions in San Carlos
San Carlos is located in the fourth largest island of the archipelago. It is in Negros where for hundreds of years the sugar barons have settled and built their sugar plantations. The workers are considered amongst the poorest in the country and belongs to the lowest social class.
In the middle of the mountain ranges that devides the regions of the island, rises the highest peak of the active Canlaon vulcano at 2675 m. At the foot of Canlaon Volcano is a well know hot-spring the Mambucal Resort with hot spring pools and waterfalls. Five kilometers walk from Mambucal Resort is the Mount Canlaon National Park. This is the jump -off point for the mountain climbers route to the impressive mountain. Not far from the park one can visit the City of Canlaon City with the hot springs and picturesque waterfalls.
To the north of San Carlos is the way to Escalante and Sagay of Cadiz City. A historic market town of Silay City with approximately thirty Balay Negrense Colonial Houses from the era around 1860.
In Victoria, you can visit the supposedly largest sugar mill in the world.
With a bit of luck, visitors can witness the "Iron Dragon" an Oldtimer Steam Engine passing by.
